Community Hospital Offers Extended Hours for Screening Mammograms

New Port Richey, Florida – (March 19, 2010) Community Hospital, the future Medical Center of Trinity, will offer extended hours for screening mammograms starting Tuesday, March 23. The last scheduled time for a screening mammogram will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.

To highlight the importance of mammography screening, Community Hospital is still offering digital mammography screenings for the nominal fee of only $60. The fee includes both the screening and the radiologist reading.

The American Cancer Society guidelines for the early detection of breast cancer places yearly mammograms as its first priority for women age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. In addition, the following is also recommended:

  • A clinical breast exam (CBE) should be part of a periodic health exam, about three years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over.
  • Women should know how their breasts normally feel and report any breast change promptly to their healthcare providers. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.
  • Women at high risk (greater than 20% lifetime risk) should get an MRI and a mammogram every year. Women at moderately increased risk (15% - 20% lifetime risk) should talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of adding MRI screening to their yearly mammogram. Yearly MRI screening is not recommended for women whose lifetime risk of breast cancer is less than 15%.

The oncology program at Community Hospital has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as offering the very best in cancer care.

Check, cash or credit cards are accepted. The screening is not eligible for insurance reimbursements. Some restrictions apply. Patients with Breast Augmentation (Implants) and patients experiencing problems with breasts do not qualify for the promotional mammogram.
